The Importance Of Exfoliation

Exfoliation and How It Benefits The Skin

If your skin is feeling dry, dull or flaky, it might just be time for a good exfoliation. Not only will you boast a beautiful and healthy complexion, many of your skin problems will become a thing of the past.

Our bodies are constantly shedding dead skin cells to make way for new growth, but sometimes it needs a little assistance, and this is where exfoliation comes in.

By helping to remove those old, dead skin cells, we speed up cell renewal, improving blood flow to the face, promoting a beautiful, healthy glow.

How do I Benefit?

A Clearer Complexion

Regular exfoliation helps you get rid of those annoying blemishes that like to appear on your forehead, chin and nose. By removing these dead skin cells, you prevent clogged pores, which contribute to blackheads and whiteheads.

A Brighter Complexion

Most of us have some dark spots due to pregnancy, hormonal changes and age. Regular exfoliation helps fade these darker areas.

A Hydrated Complexion

It is especially important to exfoliate dry skin, especially during the harsh winter months. We pile the thick creams onto our dry skin, yet there seems to be no improvement. In fact, to your despair, your skin looks grey and dried out. The only way to fix it is by exfoliation. Exfoliation will get rid of the build up of dry skin cells, improve circulation and stimulate cell renewal. By exfoliating your skin and ridding it of these old cells, you allow for better absorption of any products applied after, allowing them to do their job properly!

A Glowing Complexion

Who doesn’t want that? The good news is that exfoliation will instantly smooth your skin, improving the overall texture. Large pores will appear smaller as the overall dirt build up is washed away when you exfoliate. Collagen production is increased, and your skin will stay hydrated as serums and moisturisers will penetrate the skin more deeply.

How Often do I Need to Exfoliate?

There’s really no need to overdo it, twice a week before bedtime is more than enough.
The secret is to apply a light hand, gently rub all over your face and rinse with warm water. Its really that simple!

What if my Skin is Sensitive?

If your skin is very sensitive and turns red when you exfoliate, try only once per week. If you have some broken veins, it is a great idea to apply face oil first and then gently exfoliate. The idea is not to irritate the skin but rather get rid of those old skin cells as gently as possible.

At Alexami, we have a Facial Mitt that is ideal for providing a very thorough, yet incredibly gentle exfoliation for your skin. It has a PH level similar to that of the skin, making it ideal for even the most sensitive skin. It is wonderful when used in conjunction with our Purifying Gentle Cleanser, to provide a deep down clean, with the added bonus of a good exfoliation.

Make exfoliation part of your weekly beauty routine, it really is such a small effort on your part with huge rewards!
